The Kurayoshi
The Kurayoshi whiskey is crafted by the Matsui distillery in its namesake city, Tottori Prefecture. Its name is derived from the Japanese “kurashiyoshi”, meaning “good life”.
Established in 1910 as a sake and shochu producer, the company ventured into whiskey distillation in 2015. It draws upon a century of fermentation expertise and the pristine meltwater of Mount Daisen, which contributes to the spirit’s soft texture and distinctive fruity-nutty character. The harsh continental climate of the Sea of Japan coast accelerates the aging process in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, reminiscent of maturation on Scotland’s Islay island, yet it retains the delicate balance and refinement that are the hallmarks of Japanese artistry.
