Torres
The Torres dynasty dates back to the 17th century in the Catalan region of Penedès, near Barcelona. Historically, the family has owned vineyards in the Catalan regions of Penedès, Conca de Barberà, Priorat, and Costers del Segre.
Miguel Torres, a representative of the fourth generation of the winemaking dynasty, created the legendary wine Mas la Plana in 1970. This globally recognized project was born from experiments with the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety.
Today, the company is managed by the fifth generation of the family, which has focused on recovering and developing native Catalan grape varieties.
The Torres family also produces wines from grapes grown in other wine regions of Spain and beyond. In 1979, for instance, Torres became the first foreign family company to invest in the development of viticulture in Chile. Today, the company actively participates in reviving ancient grape varieties in this South American country, including the País variety. In addition, Torres vineyards are also located in California.
Familia Torres is a member of the Primum Familiae Vini association, which brings together the world's leading family wine estates.
Torres wines have ranked first in The World's Most Admired Wine Brands rating five times. This rating is compiled annually by the authoritative British publication Drinks International. No other wine brand in the world has topped this ranking as many times.
The company's headquarters are located in Vilafranca del Penedès. In total, Familia Torres owns more than 1,300 hectares of its own vineyards, and its products are represented in over 150 countries worldwide.
