Portia
Bodegas Portia is a winery in Ribera del Duero, owned by the Familia Martínez Zabala group. Here, ergonomic design, tradition, and innovation converge to create unique wines. The architectural complex rises seamlessly from the vineyard landscape, demonstrating respect for and a deep connection to the environment. Having opened only in 2010, Bodegas Portia quickly became one of the region’s most visited wineries and a signature landmark.
The winery building, spanning 12,500 m², was designed by Lord Norman Foster to unite art and architecture with winemaking. Its unique trefoil design, a sketch of which adorns every bottle of Portia, symbolizes the three key stages of production: fermentation in stainless steel vats, aging in oak barrels, and bottle aging.
The genius of this architecture allows the entire winemaking process to be carried out methodically, sustainably, and innovatively, maximizing the potential of the estate’s vineyards. Bodegas Portia embodies cutting-edge technology, where oak, steel, and glass are thoughtfully integrated into the space to serve production. The barrel and bottle cellars extend into the hillside, reducing thermal impact and enhancing energy efficiency. This is a place where tradition and innovation, viticulture and technology, production and hospitality are masterfully combined.
