Louis Latour

Louis Latour is a family winery, one of the most highly-regarded makers of Burgundy wines, with a reputation for being both traditional and innovative. The house has been founded by the Latour family in 1797, in the village of Aloxe-Corton, where it still operates. For a winery it is a unique achievement to be owned by the same family over ten generations, even for Burgundy. The family is also known to have owned vineyards in Côte de Beaune, one of the most magnificent Burgundy terroirs, since 1731. The Latour wine house has been selling wine from its own estate under the name Domaine Louis Latour since 1985.
Today the Latour family owns a large, 50-hectare, vineyard extending from Chambertin in the north to Chevalier-Montrachet in the south and combining the two main varieties of Burgundy grapes: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The grapes are fermented in the historic Corton Grancey winery, in Aloxe-Corton, which was the first building in France to be specifically designed and constructed for this purpose and is now the oldest working fermenting cellar in France. The winery has a unique system of wine lifts and rails, enabling vinification by gravity, which ensures the wines retain their superb taste and quality. In 1997, in honour of its bicentenary, the Latour wine house has become a member of the exclusive Hénokiens club, which consists of companies recognised as leaders in their sectors, remaining family businesses for over 200 years and bearing the name of their founder until now. There are only about 30 members of Hénokiens club in the world.
